I don't know why Pacific Rim didn't get the domestic love it deserved, I was pumping my fist with those amazing fight scenes, I did think that Hunnam's character could've been fleshed out a little more, though.

Wolf of Wall Street was phenomenal. Excellently portrayed what balls to the wall is like in Wall Street, just short of killing oneself. Felt like the last scene was an excellent way to show that everyone wants to be rich. The audience at the end felt like a reflection of us, the movie audience, and one by one, it's like he was seeing who really had what it took to make money. Although, I will say the one thing that disappointed me the most about the film is that it wasn't Luhrman-y enough--it wasn't gaudy enough for what I had built up in my head when I heard that Luhrman was going to make the film. If any filmmaker was going to be a good fit to adapt Fitzgerald's novel (which I still think is one of those books that is too difficult to adapt for the screen), it was Luhrman. But aside from the fantastic opening and the great introduction to Gatsby, the film just kind of goes flat after that. It's almost too subdued.

- I haven't seen Man of Steel yet, but your brief thoughts here make me want to check it out. I don't hate Snyder as much as some, so I really don't know why I've waited this long to see it (part of it may be that I have never been that enamored with Superman). I'll check it out soon.

- Elysium: yeah, I don't get the hate. I didn't love it, but it wasn't one of the worst movies of the year like some are claiming.

- Finally, I know they're out there, but I just cannot conceive that people are dumb enough to believe that Scorsese is condoning the behavior in The Wolf of Wall Street. I have some issues with the film, but out of all of the film's I've seen this year, it's probably near the top. It's really amazing what this DiCaprio/Scorsese collaboration has produced. I hope they keep making movies together.

Great stuff, as always, Bryce!Kevin J. Olsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17275402809912728035noreply@blogger.com
