An Honest Question

I think the book The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is a pretty lazy piece of work, and find the movie to be incredibly dull. So why did Fincher's version just become one of my most anticipated films of the year?

Trent Reznor covering Zeppelin that's why.

I'd say it looks like Fincher found the right material to round out his serial killer trilogy after all.

Trent Zep does sound good--but "The Feel Bad Movie of Christmas"? That's what's hooked me!

Having read excerpts of the novel's prose, I have no desire to read it. But a Fincher-directed, Reznor-scored, Craig-starring version? That I think I can get behind.

Actually, it's Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross featuring vocals by Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

That trailer reeks of awesomeness and looks really cool.

Yet, that Zeppelin cover. That is pure fucking. I wanna have sex with that song man.

I have the 45rpm of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song," and when you play it at 33rpm, it sounds just like Black Sabbath (really!). I so want to know what this sounds like slowwwwed down. Pure apocalypse, I hope.
(My word verification is "unizest" which is kind of neat.)

Jee-zus! Never read the books, skipped the Swedish movies, thought the U.S. version was unfair. Now I have to see it.

I'm intrigued with the trailer (I found the book okay, not great). I was going to stream the Swedish film adaptation over the summer.

I'm relatively new here, so I'm not familiar with your Summer of Samurai. Sounds great, though. Love this genre, btw. Coincidently, I took in Takashi Miike's awesome 13 Assassins today.

Thanks, Bryce.

I hated the Swedish version of the first film (and was extremely confused by the nearly universal praise it received), but Reznor + Fincher + Craig & Mara makes me really excited for the US remake.

@ Ivan: I like that quite a bit as well.

@ Keele: You're not missing much. It's not the prose that bugged me so much which was flat and declarative. I have to admit though that no matter how skilled the translation foreign language novels always seem slightly off to me. Like I'm listening to a radio just out of tune.

What bothered me was how LAZY the answer to the (genuinely intriguing) lock roomed mystery was. To the point that it was genuinely nonsensical. For all the hype it was basically sub par Agatha Christie with Anal Rape.

@ thevoid: God help me but I agree with that sentiment.

@ Samuel: Yeah keep doing that. You'll be fine. As our friend Tom says the praise the Swedish version has gotten is sort of mystifying.

@ Le0: Thanks man. Summer Of Samurai is just a bunch of Samuari films, last year I made the mistake of trying to do them all in a month like 31 Days Of Horrror. This time I'm going to let them spread out. 13 Assassins is definitely on the list though.

@ Tom: Respect Knux.
