Michael Gough died today at 94. Though probably best known now for his work with Tim Burton (I think I may have actually cheered when he showed up as The Dodo in Alice In Wonderland) his warm grandfatherly presence (or deeply creepy one depending what mood he was in) was a welcome addition to many films, including The Age Of Innocence, The Legend Of Hell House and the immortal Trog. He will certainly be missed.

So many great roles for this actor -- large and small. I'm reminded of his Mr. Poole in the George C. Scott version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, Mikhel in SMILEY'S PEOPLE, and Notary Hardenbrook in SLEEPY HOLLOW (an annual Halloween treat in my household), as well as those you've mention, Bryce. May he rest in peace.
You know I hadn't heard from him in so long I'd thought he'd already checked out! So was surprised to learn only last night that he had only just died. 94 is a good innings though.

Man, that's very sad (for no real reason, I bet he was a pretty nice guy-he just seems like he would be.
(his character met with a nasty demise in Berserk). 94 ain't a bad run at that.
